How to Make a Small Kitchen Look And Feel Big Without Spending a Lot of Money?

Well, your kitchen is small. But the size never denotes the efficiency of the kitchen. If the room lacks space, things might be a bit difficult. Insufficient storage space, compact countertop often makes cooking a challenge rather than an enjoyment. But don’t worry, your tiny kitchen won’t be a constraint for you. You just need to follow some basic principles to transform the room into a beautiful place to cook, eat and get together.

Tips to make a small kitchen look and feel large

  • Keep a simple color scheme – If square footage is scarce, keep things simple. Opt for a neutral color scheme. This will help to make the room feel larger it also helps to avoid the suffocating feeling of being flooded by colors. Remember, brighter colors are overpowering. So go for something light, preferably white.

A simple and crisp variation of white is the best to be used as the key color in a small kitchen. It would be even better if you choose white with a reflective finish. This keeps the room feeling airy and spacious. Now, if you want to create a further illusion of a bigger area, choose cabinets with a glossy finish so they can reflect light while making the cooking room feel roomier.

  • Enhance storageHomeowners hardly realize how much space is left unutilized in the walnut cabinets and drawers. Areas such as narrow nooks and triangular spaces seem to be unusable though they are not. They can provide extra storage space for small and less used articles. The insides of cabinet doors may be used. Fix hooks there to hang cleaning supplies, utensils, and so on.
  • Choose properly sized appliances While choosing kitchen appliances, keep the size of the kitchen in mind. Start with appliances that are not oversized. A 36 inches stovetop, for instance, takes away precious space in a small kitchen. Why don’t you opt for four burners instead? The same applies to the fridge as well. With a narrow and tall fridge, you can get more free space than a short and wide fridge. So, take the measurement of available space and select the appliances accordingly. Most of the kitchen appliances come in a wide array of size options.
  • Install customized cabinets and drawers Be it a Lazy Susan kept in the corner cabinet or a pull-out spice compartment – they are hardly used. Why don’t you invest in specialty drawers in place of them? They can be the unsung hero of your tiny kitchen. You can find such fittings in the kitchen supply stores. These are a great way to enhance the available space in the kitchen while letting you stay organized.
  • Sufficient lighting is required In the case of a small kitchen, lighting plays an important role. A less lit kitchen seems to be dreary and cramped. If the kitchen boasts a single lighting fixture, go for under cabinet lightings. These are notable ways to light up your kitchen. They don’t eat up counter space. But they provide sufficient lighting.
  • Cookware can be pieces of art Artwork is always a sophisticated way to incorporate personality into a space. It adds meaning to the area they are placed. If the kitchen is small, let the cookware, dishes, and even the cookbooks do the dual duty of adding aesthetics to your kitchen while being fully functional. You will find such aesthetics in mid century kitchen cabinets. Be it a hanging copper pot or plates on the open shelves, arranging even ordinary objects in an aesthetically conscious way will enhance the beauty of your cooking room.

These are the key things that can help you with maximizing the available space in your small kitchen.
