Variety Of Different Kinds Of Flow Meters:

The result given by the flow meter has to be accurate. Because inaccurate results can cause disastrous situations. Moreover, it is the kinetic energy of the flowing liquid that determines the flow rate. 

Hence, the velocity that depends on the kinetic energy also depends on the pressure projection of the liquid flow. Furthermore, other influences that determine the flow meter’s accuracy are viscosity, the friction of the liquid with the pipe.  

Closed pipe flow meter:

This variation of meter is generally used for fluids that flow in a closed conduit. Take the sewer, kitchen pipeline, fuel pipeline, and water pipeline, for example. The open channel however, includes the measuring flow in one of the non-constricted areas as well. 

The authority has to put the meter near the pipeline to obtain an accurate result. Furthermore, the closed pipe flow meters are further divided into two differential pressure, velocity, positive displacement, and mass flow meters. Meanwhile, the open channel has one-two sections.

  2. Flumes. 

Differential Pressure Flow Meter:

It is one of the most common variations of flow meters that people generally use. It comes with two components, the primary one and the secondary one. 

The first component utilizes the kinetic energy. Meanwhile the second one uses the differential pressure. It is also responsible for producing a signal that can change the flow rate. 

Velocity Flow Meters:

This variation of flow meter operates directly with the volume flow rate. Furthermore, it translates the data of the velocity of water into volume. These variations of flow meters have dividend variations as well. They are, 

  1. Vortex Shedding
  2. Turbine
  3. Swirl
  4. Electromagnetic
  5. Ultrasonic Doppler
  6. Pilot Tubes
  7. Calorimetric

Positive Displacement Flow Meter:

They measure water flow by correlating it using the number of times the chamber gets filled and emptied with water. It includes, 

  1. Nutating Disc
  2. Rotary Vane Meter
  3. Reciprocating Piston Meter
  4. Oval Gear.

Mass Flow Meter:

This particular meter is responsible for measuring the mass of fluid flowing through a particular point per unit. It consists, 

  1. Coriolis 
  2. Thermal Flow Meter.

Open Channel Flow Meter:

This variation refers to the liquid flowing in the free surface to analyze the flow rate. It has two categories. 

  1. Weirs 
  2. Flumes.
